History Camp at The Bryan

Get ready to star in your own Texas and American Western adventure at History Camp at The Bryan Museum.

Campers will enjoy activities including art, drama, writing, crafts, and games all while learning about Texas history. Follow in the footsteps of Texas artists, such as Frank Reaugh, Elisabet Ney, and Porfirio Salinas with daily art lessons. Step in the shoes of pioneers & legends such as Sam Houston, Annie Oakley, Jack Johnson, or Cabeza de Vaca in drama lessons. And, have fun in games and arts & crafts that reference frontier life, cowboy culture, and a pirate’s life based on the pirate history of Galveston Island. Guest speakers and reenactors will also visit with the campers to share their stories and inspiration.

  • Summer camp objectives follow standards set by the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills with regard to the subject of Social Studies.

  • Breakfast, lunch, and a snack are provided each day of camp

  • CDC & Open Texas guidelines will be followed and enforced for the health and safety of campers and staff

    • Face coverings will be required for campers & staff

    • Social distancing will be encouraged through increased spacing, small groups, and limited mixing between groups and staggered scheduling

    • Respiratory etiquette, frequent hand washing / hand sanitation and environmental cleaning and sanitizing will be widely observed

    • All camp staff will be trained on health and safety protocols

    • Parents should monitor the health of their children and not send them to camp if they exhibit any symptom of COVID-19. They should seek COVID-19 testing promptly and report results to the program given the implications for other children, families, and staff. Individuals aged 65 or older are at a higher risk of COVID-19. Parents should protect any vulnerable persons who are members of the same household or come into frequent, close contact with infants, children and youth who attend camp.
